The Roof Angel
To the Editor:
A couple of months ago, I was inspired to take on one of the major house projects I had been ignoring since my husband disappeared. The cedar shingle roof desperately needed replacing, and I had resolved to finally bite the bullet and get it done before another brutal winter was upon us.
One day, I was driving down Churchill Road when I noticed a truck parked at the edge of the old train station with the words Mark Edwards Roofing emblazoned on its side, in a particularly lovely font. I googled his number and, in addition, found an article written about Mark describing him as a roof angel. I can certainly attest to that.
When Mark learned my story, he cut his quote in half and offered to allow me to pay as I could, without missing a beat. He and his crew arrived mid-summer and six hours later, my roof was proudly sporting her new shakes and absolutely no evidence of the old roof could be found anywhere!
Mark Edwards epitomizes all that is Nicer in Newtown. His kindness is restorative. He brought Christmas to us early this year. I truly can’t thank him enough.
Sincerely,
Lori Hoagland
