The Trading Post Caters To Hearth And Home

Catering to canoe lovers and couples who enjoy snuggling in front of a crackling fire are The Trading Post owners Roxanne and David Lord, who recently opened a second store on Route 25 in Monroe. Like their first location operating along Route 7 in New Milford, the Monroe storefront is also geared toward “home, hearth, and leisure,” said Ms Lord.

She further described her merchandise as, “Everything that makes you feel good.”

Also pleased with the new business replacing what was once the Metropolitan Traders storefront was Newtown Savings Bank’s Monroe branch director and Monroe Chamber of Commerce member Janice Snyder, who said, “The Chamber always supports new business.”

Ribbon cutting ceremonies August 11 saw guests including Senators George “Doc” Gunther and Bill Finch, First Selectman Andrew Nunn, Chamber of Commerce members, and town officials perusing the store’s alternative heating sources and spas. Two days later grand opening shoppers were treated to an appearance by TV personality Kevin O’Connor from the series This Old House.

Those who have not yet visited the new location can take a virtual look at merchandise at trading-post-ct.com and find wares for the hearth, spa and patio, and paddle sports.

Stoves and fireplaces designed to burn wood or other fuel materials sat in a showroom sharing space with large hot tubs and spas.

Outdoors lining the curb were additional tub and spa models. Lined up in the store beside the fire pokers and brooms were canoe and kayak paddles that outfitted the watercraft sold at The Trading Post. Kitchen appliances are among merchandise sold in the store and advertised on the website.

Getting to Know The Owners

According to information found on the website, The Trading Post is a family-owned business in operation for more than 25 years. Services available including installation, setup, service, maintenance and cleaning.

Mr Lord is a member of the Hearth Masters of America, and is certified by the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) in wood, gas and pellet technologies and standards.
