Sobriety Checkpoint Planned

During the nighttime hours of Saturday, August 19, and early morning hours of Sunday, August 20, town police plan to hold a sobriety checkpoint on an unspecified local road.

Ten police officers and one supervisor will staff the checkpoint, police said

Each motorist traveling through the checkpoint will be briefly stopped. Drivers will be interviewed to determine if they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Drivers found to be under the influence will be arrested and transported to the police station for arrest processing.

The sobriety checkpoint program is made possible through a law enforcement grant. More sobriety checkpoints are slated for later this year.
