Mary E. Saunders

Former Resident Of Heritage Village

Mary E. Saunders, 90, wife of the late Walter S. Saunders of Sandy Hook, died August 11 in River Glen Health Care Center, Southbury.

She was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on April 14, 1916, a daughter of Michael and Bridget McGarry.

A son, Gary M. Saunders and his wife, Judith, of Sandy Hook; two grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Saunders; and two sisters, Elizabeth Calderwood of Southbury, and Ann Greene of Whiting, N.J., survive Mrs Saunders.

She was a resident of Heritage Village in Southbury for 11 years, until 2000, and previously resided in the Bronx, N.Y., where she was a school crossing guard for many years.

Funeral services were held August 15 from the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment was in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, N.Y.
