Trailer Break-In

Police report they learned August 13 that a man who was storing a camping trailer at Amaral Motors, Inc., at 40 South Main Street found that a side window of the camper had been broken and that someone had entered the trailer, stealing a television set from it. Police are investigating.

Vehicles Vandalized

Police said they are investigating a case in which three vehicles parked at The Taunton Press at 63 South Main Street were damaged and items were stolen from them. The incidents occurred sometime after 6:30 am August 17.

Damaged were a 1994 Honda Passport, a 2000 Nissan Alta, and a Toyota pickup truck. In each case, a window was smashed and items were taken. Stolen items included car radios, police said. The incidents constitute criminal mischief and larceny.

Schoolhouse Hill

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Edmond Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 4:30 pm August 15.

Police said motorist Nancy Cooper, 46, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1997 Plymouth Neon, was leaving the driveway at the Pitney-Bowes facility at the intersection, as motorist Lisa Chaloux, 37, of 33 Old Green Road, was driving a 1995 Plymouth Voyager minivan on Schoolhouse Hill Road.

Cooper entered Schoolhouse Hill Road and collided with Chaloux, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cooper an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way.

Route 302 DWI

Police report that while they had a motorist stopped on Route 302 near Sugar Lane about 10:45 pm August 18, they observed another vehicle being driven erratically on eastbound Route 302.

The erratically driven vehicle almost struck one of two parked police patrol cars, according to police. Police said they followed the vehicle and stopped it near the intersection of Route 302 and Elm Drive.

Police said they gave the driver, Michael J. Pangle, 33, of Southbury, field sobriety tests and determined he was intoxicated. Police charged Pangle with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Pangle for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

South Main DWI

Police said they saw motorist Salvatore DiGrazia, 46, of Oxford cross over the road’s center line many times while driving northbound on South Main Street about 2:40 am August 19. DiGrazia then made a sudden right turn from northbound South Main Street to eastbound Mile Hill Road from the “straight ahead” lane at the intersection of those roads, police said.

Police said they stopped DiGrazia and gave him field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive to the right, and failure to obey a traffic sign.

After processing, police released DiGrazia for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicle Incidents

Police report two incidents involving vehicle vandalism and theft on South Main Street sometime after 9:30 pm August 14.

An unknown person entered two vehicles, one by breaking a window and another by opening an unlocked door, police said. Items stolen include cash, a compact disc player, compact discs, and a tape cassette player. Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to contact police.

Pole Bridge DWI

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jeremiah Road and Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook about 7:45 pm August 19.

Police said motorist Paul Anderson, 66, of Chappaqua, N.Y., who was driving a 1990 Mazda on Jeremiah Road, entered that road’s intersection with Pole Bridge Road and collided with motorist John Paloian, 63, of 199 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck northbound on Pole Bridge Road. There were no injuries, police said.

Police said they investigated the crash and charged Anderson with driving while intoxicated. After processing, police released Anderson for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sideswiped

 Police report a sideswipe accident at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and the Interstate-84 Exit 11 off-ramp about 9:30 am August 18.

Police said motorist Lenore Nespoli, 54, of 16 Nutmeg Lane, Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 Mercury Marquis on westbound Mile Hill Road, was stopped at a red light, when trucker Christopher Rogers, 23, of West Haven, who was driving a 1996 Kenworth truck, made too wide a right turn at the intersection when leaving the off-ramp and sideswiped the stopped Mercury.

There were no injuries. Police issued Rogers a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

 

I-84 Crash

State police report a collision between an auto and a pickup truck on eastbound Interstate-84 near Exit 10 on August 15.

State police said a 1999 Audi sedan driven by Nadine Essency, 48, of Woodbury was eastbound on I-84 in the left lane of three lanes east of the Exit 10 on-ramp, when a 1997 Ford pickup truck driven by Patrick B. Lewis, 17, of Milford, which had been in the center lane, moved into the left lane, striking the Audi. There were no injuries. State police charged Lewis with making an unsafe lane change.

Toyota Accident

State police said Eduardo Alvarado, 61, of Danbury, who was driving a Toyota Tercel westbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 9 during heavy rain in foggy conditions about 6 pm August 14, slid into some guard railing. Alvarado was not injured. State police verbally warned him for traveling too fast.

DWI Warrant Arrest

Police said they served an arrest warrant August 22 against Christopher Landock, 34, of Shelton in connection with a March 17 motor vehicle accident.

Police charged Landock with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and evading responsibility. After processing, police released Landock for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

MV Charges

Police said they charged a local man with four motor vehicle violations about 12:30 am August 22 on Church Hill Road.

Police said they charged Richard P. Haight, Jr, 18, of 99 Church Hill Road with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to return a suspended license to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, having excessively tinted auto windows, and creating a loud noise with a modified muffler system.

  Police released Haight on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court September 7.

 Button Shop Crash

Police report a one-car accident about 8 pm August 23 at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Button Shop Road.

Police said motorist Tisheon Hunt, 21, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, was turning from Toddy Hill Road onto Button Shop Road in low visibility during a rainstorm when he struck a tree on the eastbound shoulder of Button Shop Road.

Hunt and a passenger in the auto, Carla Crump, 24, of Bridgeport, received cuts and bruises in the collision, police said.

Police said Hunt was driving a motor vehicle while under suspension and made a restricted turn.  He is scheduled to appear in court September 5 to answer the charges.

The tree which Hunt struck was the same tree involved in a one-car accident in September 1999 in which a local man died.

Warrant Served

Police said they served an arrest warrant against Kathleen Kallivrousis, 34, of Southbury August 23 at the police station in connection with a past traffic violation.

Police charged Kallivrousis with failure to appear in court, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and violating a traffic control signal.

Police said the charges stem from a June 25 incident in which Kallivrousis failed to stop for a red light on Church Hill Road. Police released her on bond for a September 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Disorderly Warrant

Police said they served an arrest warrant August 23 against Susan Anderson, 37, of Danbury at her home, charging her with disorderly conduct in connection with a June 16 incident at a South Main Street business. Police released Anderson on a promise to appear in court September 7.
