Mary Wray Ruffles

Mary Wray Ruffles, 82, of Bethel, and formerly a longtime resident of Newtown; mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully August 16 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., October 11, 1932. 

Her ten children and spouses, Douglas Gene Ruffles of Newtown, Linda Ruffles Cummings and Henry of Kennebunk, Maine, Laura Ruffles Fraser and Bob of Shallotte, N.C., Terri Ruffles Kolwicz and Richard of Bethel, Mary Ruffles English of Bethel, Dymphna Ruffles Correia and Barry of Westerly, R.I., Louisa Ruffles Tolla and Joe of Conway, S.C., Anastasia Ruffles Kennedy of Denville, N.J., and Loan Ruffles Barrows and Kim Phuong Ruffles, both of Bethel, survive Mrs Ruffles. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five sisters; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Douglas G. Ruffles predeceased his wife.

Mrs Ruffles was a devoted Christian member of the Carmelites since 1997. Friends may call at the Church of St Mary, 26 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, Wednesday, August 19, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 20, at 10 am, also in the Church of St Mary. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery, Sandy Hook.

Mrs Ruffles’ family wishes to thank with deep respect and gratitude, the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company.
