Gilbert E. “Bud” Van Valkenburg, 86, of Danbury died at his home August 13. He was a loving, trusting husband to his late wife, Jean Marie Van Valkenburg. He was born in Newtown, July 30, 1929, and was the son of the late Ella May Storm. He attended Newtown High School.

Mr Van Valkenburg was employed at Castro Convertibles, in the manufacturing field, retiring after numerous years of service. He received honorable discharge from the US Navy.

He was a member of the Danbury United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed sports — baseball, football (Patriots fan), and fishing. Mr Van Valkenburg and his wife were members of the Rocking Roosters Square Dance Group of Newtown.

His son, Peter E. Van Valkenburg, and his wife Robin, of Danbury; daughter-in-law, Dawn Resnick Van Valkenburg of California; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Flade of North Kingston, R.I.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr Van Valkenburg. He also leaves his caregiver and trusted friend, Themba “Tim” Tshoagong, of Waterbury. In addition to his mother, his son, Glen D. Van Valkenburg, predeceased him.

Cremation and burial services will take place at the direction of the family. There will be no memorial service or calling hours at this time. Green Funeral Home, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
