The Newtown Tennis Association is now taking registrations for the annual Bertram Stroock Memorial Tournament and the Victor Coopersmith Junior Championships.
The Newtown Tennis Association is now taking registrations for the annual Bertram Stroock Memorial Tournament and the Victor Coopersmith Junior Championships.
The Junior Championships will begin on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, at Dickinson Park with a full slate of round robin matches for players 10 and under (10 am), 14 and under (2 pm) and 18 and under (2 pm).
The two highest-ranked players in each group will qualify for the finals to be played on Sunday, September 9.
The Stroock Tournament will begin very soon (entries close August 21), with the semifinals and finals to be played on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9, at Dickinson Park.
To enter either event, players must be Newtown residents and the fee must accompany the registration form (which can be found at www.ntaweb.com).
For the Junior Championships, fee is $5 per player per event (maximum of two events per player). Registrations will be accepted on the day of play.
For the Stroock Memorial Tournament, the fee is $10 for one event, $15 for two events and $20 for three events.
Checks and forms should be mailed to Newtown Tennis Association, P.O. Box 3432, Newtown, 06470.
For the Stroock, divisions will include womenâs singles, womenâs doubles, menâs singles, menâs 55 singles, menâs doubles and mixed doubles.
If there are enough entries, consolation tournaments will be held for those who lose their first round matches.
