RSO Accepting Music Competition Applications

RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra is accepting application for its Eighth Annual Music Competition, to be held on Saturday, October 13. The competition is open to music students in grades six through 12. All student winners will receive cash prizes and be featured in a Winner’s Performance on Sunday, November 17.

Applicants should submit a completed application (online at RidgefieldSymphony.org) along with an audiotape or a CD for the preliminary selection process. Applications must be received by August 31 to be considered for the preliminary screening process.

Successful applicants will be invited to live auditions in October. At the auditions, applicants will play ten minutes of their audition composition. Each applicant must provide his or her own accompanist.

Adjudicators for piano, strings and winds will judge the competition and select the winners. All winners will be invited to play at the Winner’s Performance on Sunday, November 18.

The grand prize winner, if one is chosen, will be invited to perform with Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra at its Youth Concerts on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

Participation at this competition will be strictly limited. Last year, there were so many applicants a long waiting list was established. This is testament to the growing reputation of this competition among music students and music teachers in the tri-state area. Early registration is therefore encouraged.
