Run For A Cure
The seventh annual Run For A Cure 3-miler will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, at 9:30 am. The race will be held to raise money for the New Milford New York-Presbyterian Hospital Cancer Center and the Relay For Life of the American Cancer Society. There will be a $10 entry fee that can be paid that day between 7:30 and 9:15 am at the Roxbury Congregational Church on Route 317. The top overall male and female finisher will each receive a prize. There also will be a shorter childrenâs race that day at 9 am, which will have no entry fee. The races are sponsored by the Roxbury Recreation Commission, the Roxbury Road Race Series and the church. Walkers are encouraged and they will head out at 9:15 am, 15 minutes before the main races starts. Refreshments will be provided. Rapids Fastpitch Tryouts
The CT Rapids fastpitch tournament travel teams will be holding tryouts for 2008 on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, at Veterans Park on Nova Scotia Hill Road in Watertown. Times for both days: U14, 10 am to 12 noon; U16, 12 noon to 2 pm; U18, 2 to 4 pm. Bombers Fall Baseball
The CT Bombers are currently accepting player registrations for the U10, U12, 13, U14, U16 and U18 fall baseball teams. The Greater New Haven Baseball League is also accepting team registrations for all age groups listed above. Call Bob Turcio or John Daley at 203-248-2398 for further information.
Wilton Wahoos Tryouts
The Wilton Y Wahoos of the Wilton Family YMCA will hold tryouts for swimmers ages 6 to 19 on Monday and Tuesday, August 27 and 28, as well as Tuesday, September 11. Evaluations on August 27 will be for 10 and under ( 4 pm), 11 and 12s (5 pm), and 13 and over (6 pm). Evaluations on August 28 will be for 10 and under (4 pm) and 11 and over (5 pm). Evaluations on September 11 will be for all ages (4 pm). A swimmerâs evaluation includes having the swimmer swim one length of the pool with each stroke. Swimmer will be assigned to the appropriate training group based on their skill level and ability to train. The Wilton Y Wahoos are currently the 2007 Connecticut YMCA swim league champions and the 2007 Short Course and Long Course Connecticut Swimming team champions.
