A Lesson In Recycling
A Lesson In
Recycling
To the Editor:
I agree with what Ms Woodies said in the article âFine-Tuning Recycling in Newtownâ (August 10). She said, âIf there is only one trash can [in the classroom] where does everything go?â I was a fifth grader last year at the Reed School and this is my story. In my family recycling is important. So, when I went to school and saw people throwing away recyclables in the trash day after day, it bothered me. So I talked to my teacher (Mrs DiVanno) and she said it would be fine to bring in a recycling bin. The students in my classroom happily used it. We took turns taking the recyclables home and putting them in our bins at home. It turns out that more than three-quarters of our cluster (a cluster is about 50 students) brought bottled drinks to school every day. It ended up that we collected about 40 bottles a day. Before we had our recycling bin, all those bottles would go to the trash. I really hope that Newtown improves the recycling programs in the schools.
Sincerely,
Steven Anderau
