Sound Center Celebrates Wellness, Spirit
Jennifer Zulli walked through the old 1847 wedding chapel where she now runs the Sound Center, a creative arts and wellness center in Hawleyville. She noted the space’s past history — a Newtown resident had relocated the chapel from Brookfield to Hawleyville in 1900. She then turned her thoughts to its current use, which was previewed Saturday, August 9, during a Wellness For Your Spirit Summer Festival and Fair.
Sound Center’s founder and director, Ms Zulli said, “We do holistic education, and combine arts and spirituality.” The center is a place where “arts and spirituality connect,” she said. That day offered a sampling of many classes and services found there, said Rachel Archelaus, the center’s assistant director.
The Wellness for Your Spirit Summer Festival and Fair also saw a host of vendors and guests enjoying the late summer day.
Libby Brittain sat with a guest, and using chalk pastels, drew a series of curving, rainbow-colored shapes on a page. She said she was doing an intuitive drawing of her guest’s energy, something she had learned to do at the Sound Center.
Under the shade of a tent, Quinn Murphy applied colorful henna tattoos. Holding out their hands to show off the decorations that ran from their forearms to fingertips were mother Katheryn Zaharek and sons Logan and Gavin. Next visiting Ms Murphy for a tattoo was Grace Zulli.
Under another awning was Paul Corey of the Newtown shop, Vital Rain. Open since May, his store sells herbal remedies and natural products.
Soon, Ms Zulli’s husband John, son Miles, and the family black lab named Amicus joined her as she lit a fire and prepared for a singing and dance circle.
This event was the second for the creative arts and mindfulness center. Ms Zulli is looking forward to continued growth for the festival in the years to come.
Workshops on Saturday offered highlights of upcoming fall programs. Classes and demonstrations in hypnosis, belly dance, various types of yoga, mindful meditation for adults and teens (MSBR), nutrition, Reiki, Kirtan, and psychic/intuitive readings, were offered.
