A Poetic Parting
A Poetic Parting
To the Editor,
There once was a team called TORPEDOES,
Came to practice every day in their Speedos.
The weather was rotten,
More rain couldnât be gotten;
Theyâd rather be home eating Fritos.
Still somehow they got up at six,
Their hair they wouldnât bother to fix.
To Treadwell we go,
So we wonât swim so slow;
Once these coaches show us their new bags of tricks.
Thereâs Annie who works us hard daily,
That must be because sheâs a Yalie.
As a coach sheâs impressive,
Now weâll be more aggressive;
When we fly to the finish line gaily.
When we just didnât want to get in,
McGovern would help us begin.
A quick push and youâre wet,
But youâll never regret,
Cause heâll teach you to stroke for the win.
For fun there was always Kotwicki,
With Sharks and Minnows he was always quite picky.
To win you must speed,
And at meets this weâll need;
But he makes swimming seem much less tricky.
The under eights were lucky to get Kirsten;
To do well you just need to listen.
To kids she is kind,
And at meets you will find,
That her kids will just sparkle and glisten.
Last but not least thereâs another great Lux,
For him we must have paid the big bucks.
If we could keep up with him,
Weâd be certain to win,
And theyâd deliver the ribbons in trucks.
To say good-bye to our coaches is regrettable,
For the team this summer is unforgettable.
Thereâs no doubt theyâre the best,
Quite a cut above the rest;
The summer of 2000 in our hearts is indelible.
On behalf of all the swimmers and parents, thank you to Summer Torpedoes coaches:
Annie Lux, Brian McGovern, Bryan Kotwicki, Kirsten Carleton, and Tim Lux.
