Hit In Turn Lane

Newtown Police report Colin Corbo, 44, of Roxbury, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 1:05 pm August 2. He was traveling behind a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse operated by Tracey Zajac, 55, of Woodbury. Police say Corbo attempted to move into the left turn only lane, and the passenger side of his vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of Zajac’s vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

Corbo was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Vehicle Left Scene

Newtown Police report an unidentified vehicle was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 4:13 pm August 2. The vehicle struck the rear bumper of a 2020 Hyundai Tucson, operated by Connor Hintze, 17, of Newtown, that was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn onto Mile Hill Road from South Main Street.

The unidentified vehicle left the scene.

Hintze complained of pain in his right knee, but refused medical attention.

Volkswagen Sought

Newtown Police report an unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:54 pm August 3. The vehicle went off the road and struck the mailbox of 28 Mt Pleasant Road, owned by Leslie Lamon. Police say the vehicle fled the scene, leaving some debris from a Volkswagen headlight and mirror.

Collision Near Flagger

Newtown Police report Dylan Tyrrell, 24, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2001 Nissan Altima, was traveling east on Berkshire Road at 11:27 am August 3. Curillo Cabrera, 22, of Danbury, operating a 2009 Toyota RAV4, was also traveling east on Berkshire Road ahead of Tyrrell, and stopped behind a 2018 Honda Accord operated by Barbara Palica, 70, of Danbury, who Police say stopped at the direction of a Connecticut Department of Transportation flagger in the roadway.

Tyrrell failed to stop and the front bumper of his vehicle made contact with the rear bumper of Cabrera’s stopped vehicle, which was pushed forward and struck the rear bumper of Palica’s stopped vehicle. Cabrera reported of elbow pain and was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance to Danbury Hospital. Tyrrell’s vehicle and Cabrera’s vehicle were both towed from the scene.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company also responded to the crash.

Tyrrell was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Struck Vehicle Turning Left

Newtown Police report Teresa Augustyn, 74, of Stamford, operating a 2015 Toyota RAV4, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 12:33 pm August 4. Robert Wojinski, 64, of Newtown, operating a 2016 GMC Sierra, was traveling northbound on South Main Street ahead of Augustyn and slowed and turned its left turn signal on with the intention to turn left onto Bears Hill Road. The front of Augustyn’s vehicle struck the rear of Wojinski’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Augustyn’s vehicle was towed.

Augustyn was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Key Fob Found

Newtown Police report a key fob for a Kia was located on Oakview Road and turned in to Newtown Police.

Anyone missing a similar item can claim it at the Newtown Police Department with proof of ownership.

Strangulation Charges

Newtown Police report that officers responded to 22 Tunnel Road for a possible dispute at 4:31 am August 5. Upon investigation at the scene, Matthew Solberg, 34, was placed under arrest and charged with third-degree strangulation.

Solberg was given a court date of August 5 at Danbury Superior Court.

Fender Bender In Lot

Newtown Police report Robert Geckle, operating a 2013 BMW 650i, was traveling west in the parking lot of 30 Church Hill Road at 9:58 am August 6. Samantha Henriques, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, was traveling in the parking lot, and turned left at a stop sign and traveled north along the lot’s through lane towards the Church Hill Road exit. Geckle stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the through lane, and his vehicle struck Henriques’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Failure To Obey Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Dylan Lindwall-Thomas, 19, of Monroe, operating a 2019 Nissan Sentra, was traveling on Great Quarter Road at 4:01 pm August 7. Fitzroy Millington, 47, of Queens Village, N.Y., was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road. Police say Lindwall-Thomas failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of Great Quarter Road and entered Berkshire Road, striking Millington’s vehicle.

Lindwall-Thomas sustained a minor head injury from the collision and was transported by Newtown EMS. Both vehicles were towed.

Lindwall-Thomas was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Rear-Ended On Church Hill

Newtown Police report Victoria Keayes, 21, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Acura RDX, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 4:07 pm August 7. She was traveling behind a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer operated by Amanda Jones, 25, of New Milford. Police say Jones came to a stop, and the front of Keayes’ vehicle struck the rear of Jones’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Keayes received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Econoline Hits Porsche

Newtown Police report Angel Velez, 29, of Waterbury, operating a 2007 Ford Econoline, was traveling north on Toddy Hill Road at 8:11 am August 9. He was traveling behind a 2008 Porsche Cayenne operated by Dmitri Efimov, 60, of Southport. Police say Efimov came to a stop approximately 75 feet south of the intersection of Berkshire Road for traffic ahead. Velez did not stop in time, and the front of his vehicle struck the rear bumper of Efimov’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Velez received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
