‘Wine, Women & Art III’ Opening At White Silo

SHERMAN — “Wine, Women and Art,” a multi-media art exhibit and sale, has been invited back for its third year at the White Silo Farm and Winery. The show will be on view from Friday, August 22, through Sunday, September 7, and will feature the newest works by four award-winning artists. The show’s opening reception will be celebrated from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, August 24.

The creative expressions of four Connecticut artists — Ann Kromer, Adele Moros, Paula Renee and Judith Taylor — will again synergize into a dynamic experience for art enthusiasts and collectors. On exhibit will be a unique display of acrylic, oil, watercolor, and multi-media paintings, collage and pottery.

Ann Kromer is a plein aire painter and as such prefers working outdoors where she can catch the light and mood of landscapes. Her landscapes have won numerous awards, including Rockport Publishers Best of Acrylic Paintings and Best of Oil Paintings.

Ms Kromer has exhibited at the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club in New York City, and her work has appeared in American Artist magazine and in Splash 8 and Splash 9.

Adele Moros is a multi-media artist whose work varies from miniatures to murals, portraits, still life, and landscapes. Her “Tiffany Cow,” a life-size cow that was painted for CowParade New York, raised $60,000 for charity at the New York Cow Parade 2000. Slides of “Tiffany Cow” are in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Ms Moros has taught painting for the past 25 years and is a Fellow with the International Guild of Miniature Artisans. She has won many awards, and her work is included in numerous private, corporate, and museum collections, including the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kentucky.

Paula Renee is known for her tapestries, woven paintings and dimensional paper constructions. Her multi-media art is in major corporate, public and private collections worldwide including the Presidential Suite and 17 lobbies of the Tobu Hotel in Kinshicho Japan; the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad India; West Point’s Jewish temple; actress Mary Tyler Moore and numerous others.

Ms Renee has exhibited widely for 30 years in prominent New York City galleries and throughout the United States, including traveling exhibitions at American Cultural Centers in major cities of India;  museums and art centers in Virginia and Tennessee; also Trenton City Museum, Hudson River  Museum, Bergen Museum and others. Her art has been on the covers and in featured articles in numerous magazines, such as Fiberarts, Science of Mind, Shuttle Spindle & Dyepot and in the book Pages of Revelations, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Most recent awards include Best in Show from The Society of Creative Arts in Newtown and first prize from New Canaan Society for the Arts, both juried exhibits.

The fourth artist in the show is a former soloist with American Ballet Theater. Judith (Lerner) Taylor who continues to express the joy of movement through her unique ceramic creations, called “EarthDances.”

Ms Taylor became established as a ceramic artist during the past decade, as her work was exhibited in high-end art galleries in New Jersey and Connecticut. Her pottery has won several awards and is part of numerous private collections in the USA and Europe.

Much of Ms Taylor’s pottery is functional, although the sculptural aspects of her pieces also enable them to stand alone and be enjoyed simply as artwork. The common theme in all her work is motion, conveyed either in the basic shape of the piece, the designs carved into the clay, or her unusual glaze treatments.

Since her move to rural Connecticut in 2006, she began to incorporate images of nature into her work, and this year leaves, flowers and hummingbirds are featured on her pottery.

White Silo Farm and Winery, at 32 Route 37 East in Sherman, is open Friday through Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. It will also be open on Labor Day Monday, September 1.
