Rotary Club Golf Classic Returns

By Nancy K. Crevier

The Newtown Rotary Club once again invite golfers of all levels to join in the Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic, Monday, September 8, at Tashua Knolls Golf Club in Trumbull.

For over 25 years, the Newtown Rotary Club has supported many charities and causes in and around the community through fundraisers such as the Golf Classic. This year, the primary beneficiary of money raised September 8 will be Newtown Youth and Family Services. NYFS provides counseling and youth development and family programming for Newtown residents.

The Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic day of fun, golf, food, and drink begins with registration at 10 am and the practice range, followed by an 11:30 am shotgun-scramble and the tee off for participants. Prizes will be given for hole-in one, low gross (first five places), low gross (mixed and women), closest to pin, longest drive, and straightest drive.

The entry fee of $165 includes 18 holes of golf, including a cart, lunch, refreshments on the golf course, cocktails at 4:30 pm, dinner, and the chance to take part in the auction and to win raffle prizes. Play is restricted to 32 foursomes, and preregistration is requested. Interested foursomes can call Linda DeLaurentis at 426-4440, extension 3182 for more information.

Non-golfers are also welcome to join in the festivities for cocktails and dinner, at a cost of $50 per person.

“We are still in great need of tee sponsors,” said Rotary member and Newtown Savings Bank president John Trentacosta, “and we are still looking for foursomes.”

Platinum sponsorship is available for $2,500 and pays for four participants for the day, a name banner at registration, program recognition, and post-tournament publicity; the gold sponsorship, $1,500 includes four participants for the day, name banner on first tee, program recognition, and post-tournament publicity; for $1,500 a lunch sponsorship can be purchased, and includes a name banner at lunch, program recognition, and post-tournament publicity. The hole-in-one sponsorship costs $500, and buys a name banner on par 3s and program recognition. Golf cart and beverage cart sponsorships are available for $500, and tee sponsorship costs $200.

Please include name, address, phone number and tee sponsor name for signage, and mail checks to Newtown Rotary Club Foundation, PO Box 263, Newtown CT 06470.

Players are urged to register as soon as possible, so as not to miss out on the fun.

Names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of each player in the foursome should be included when registering by mail.
