Karate Is In The Family For Local Veterinarians
John Roumanis, VMD, and Karin Harter, VMD, of Newtownâs Berkshire Veterinary Hospital hosted the Fourth Annual Warriorâs Path Silk & Steel New England, an edged and flexible weapons seminar at their Karate School, Woodbury Family Karate, recently. This was the second Warriorâs Path they have hosted at their school since it opened 13 months ago.
The seminar was taught by Master Michael E. Kayne, PhD, and Master Scott C. Homscheck, both fifth-degree black belts in the World Tang Soo Do Association.
Dr Hartner first started taking karate 16 years ago after seeing how much fun her oldest son, Branden, had taking a class. Dr Roumanis also became interested in martial arts both with family security in mind and because of the allure of a fun and interesting way to become more physically fit. The coupleâs youngest son, Christopher, soon followed and the whole family became involved in Tang Soo Do. Branden developed other interests after earning his green belt and Christopher and his parents are all black belts. Dr Roumanis is a third-degree black belt, and after ten years of teaching karate, opened his own school, which is at 226 Main Street North in Woodbury.
Classes are held for all ages on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30. It is anticipated that the all-ages class will become an adult class and that a childrenâs class will be offered from 6:30 to 7:15 pm soon. Tiny Tigers, for ages 4â6, is offered Wednesdays at 5:30 pm.
