'Concerto Of Chirps' To Accompany Evening Insect Walk
âConcerto Of Chirpsâ To Accompany Evening Insect Walk
SOUTHBURY â Have you been enjoying the chorus of sounds outside your home each evening? Do you want to know what is responsible for those sounds?
Jim Drennan, an educator with Audubon Center at Bent of the River, and John Himmelman, a noted Connecticut naturalist and author, will lead âA Concerto Of Chirps: An Evening Insect Walkâ on Saturday, August 30. The program will be at the Audubon Center and will begin at 9:30 pm.
Mr Drennan and Mr Himmelman will lead the quiet walk along the Audubon Centerâs meadows in search of crickets, katydids, moths, and other creatures that go âchirp...chirp...chirp...â in the night.
Mr Himmelman is co-founder of the Connecticut Butterfly Association, and author of Discovering Moths: Nighttime Jewels in Your Own Backyard and dozens of childrenâs nature books. He has been guiding people to the nocturnal sounds of insects and the subtle beauty of native moths for years, and has been a regular guest of the Audubon Center at Bent of the River.
During the August 30 program he will help to dissect the evening sounds and possibly find and identify the insects responsible. Mr Himmelman has been studying the nighttime insects for many years and will share his insight and expertise about the nocturnal world.
Bent of the River Educator Jim Drennan has enjoyed the beauty and the symphony of the evening with his four children for 18 years and will share his knowledge and experiences while assisting Mr Himmelman along the walk.
