Base Ball Eras

Collide Sunday

Sunday will mix the old-fashioned fun of vintage base ball with the excitement only a Yankees- Red Sox game could generate.

The Newtown Sandy Hook Vintage Base Ball Club invites all Newtowners to McLaughlin Vineyards, this Sunday, August 17, to enjoy a doubleheader game, and to celebrate the winner of an interim drawing to benefit the club’s Hits for Harmon fundraising campaign.

The winner of Sunday’s drawing will enjoy a four-pack of tickets, clubhouse passes, and parking for the August 28 Red Sox versus Yankees match-up at Yankee Stadium.

Since former Newtown Bee sports editor and vintage base ball teammate Kim Harmon died last December, his fellow players have affixed memorial patches to their uniforms bearing their former teammate’s jersey number, and launched a season-long fundraising effort to infuse the Harmon Family Fund, while creating a vehicle to further donations to the American Heart Association (AHA) in Mr Harmon’s name.

The overall Hits For Harmon program can involve pledges of any amount — from one penny on up — for each run the vintage team scores in its 2008 season. At the end of the season, the team will call in its pledges, and formulate donations to the fund and the AHA.

But this special interim drawing is only accessible to those making a $20 minimum pledge or higher. Pledge/donation deadline for the Yankees-Red Sox drawing will be Sunday at 4 pm at the vineyard, with the drawing to follow at about 4:45 pm.

All participants, regardless of the amount pledged, will be eligible for additional drawings taking place following the closing of the Hits for Harmon campaign at the 2008 Labor Day Parade. The final drawings include four box seats plus parking for the Yankees-Rays game on September 12.
