Stephen E. Drews
Stephen E. Drews, 90, died on July 22, in Denver, Colo. He was born February 14, 1913, in New York City and was a longtime resident of Newtown, raising his family in Sandy Hook.
He served in the Army during World War II and earned five battle stars while in Europe. In addition to a lifelong career as a carpenter, many Newtown residents remember him as a school bus owner/operator for many years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed retirement in Prescott, Ariz., and Highlands Ranch, Colo. He loved traveling with his wife, from Alaska to Panama and from England to Thailand.
His wife of 62 years, Thirza Drews; and four children, Merrilynn Drews of Alexandria, Va., Jeffrey Drews of Gurnee, Ill., Stephen Drews of Peoria, Ariz., and Susan Northrop of Highlands Ranch, Colo., survive him. Additionally, he had seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
According to his wishes no services were held and his remains were cremated. Memorial remembrances may be made to St Judeâs Childrenâs Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
