GOP Fields A New Council Candidate
The Republican Town Committee at its meeting August 11 unanimously nominated Robert Mulholland as a candidate for the Legislative Council from District 2 in the November election.
Mr Mulholland replaces Patrick Mullins, who resigned because he is no longer a resident of the district because of redistricting.
Mr Mulholland, an 18-year resident of Newtown, said he retired August 1, and is looking forward to running for the council.
Chairman Owen Carney said candidates are also needed for the Legislative Council in District 3. Marie Smith recently resigned as a candidate, citing other obligations that take place on the councilâs meeting night.
The committee also accepted the resignation of William Meyer from the town committee because he is moving to Rhode Island.
State Rep DebraLee Hovey (R-112th) told town committee members she is seeking Newtown residents from her district to serve on an advisory council to keep her up to date on local concerns.
The town committee plans to discuss its party platform at its September 8 meeting.
