Gardening Fair

At Master Extension Center

BETHEL — Plans are well underway for a University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System Master Gardener program gardening fair scheduled for Saturday, August 23. The fair will run from 1 to 4 pm at the Fairfield County Agricultural Center, 67/69 Stony Hill Road (Route 6).

The event is free and open to the public and will feature talks by Joe Maisano, Brid Craddock, Ingrid McCauley, Susan McMahon and Carol Beerbaum on a variety of topics including herbs, lawn care, pruning, integrated pest management and developing a perennial garden. The first informational talk will begin at 1:15 pm.

An optional plant swap will be held. Anyone interested in participating should bring in a perennial from their yard, in a pot with soil, clearly labeled. Participants can then swap their plant for a different and interesting plant.

A free perennial plant will also be given to the first 40 people to arrive.

There will be used horticultural books for sale. Donations of horticultural books are still being accepted.

Guided tours and discussions of the center’s perennial gardens will be offered, as will wildflower identification walks.

Call the Bethel Master Gardener office at 207-3262 for more information.
