Don't Minimize The Message From The Voters
Donât Minimize The Message
From The Voters
To the Editor:
It is unfortunate that Mr Rosenthal found it necessary to comment in a nonpositive way about the outcome of the referendum vote as reported in the News-Times. We should not minimize the message the voters have sent ââ they have rejected the master plan for Fairfield Hills. Now our elected officials have to respectfully listen to them and act accordingly. All my comments in asking for individuals to vote No were honest, heart-felt, and made in the best interests of our town.
I still believe we should slow down the process.
A continuing concern of mine is that we will not know the full picture of what we are buying until negotiations with the state have been completed. My greatest apprehension lies with the environmental and water issues that, to the best of my knowledge, have not yet been resolved. The most important thing we can do now is complete our negotiations with the state in a manner that will protect the taxpayers of Newtown from potentially costly and possibly severe environmental issues.
What the voters have said is very straightforward: please donât burden us with additional taxes until we have a better understanding of what we have purchased.
Sincerely,
Bill Sheluck
