Michael Kennedy and Will Culligan were embroiled in an epic tennis match last Saturday at Dickinson Park and when it was finally – three hours later – it was Kennedy who claimed the 14-year-old title of the Victor Coopersmith Tournament.

Play, scheduled for 9 am, was delayed while courts were mopped and dried after the rain. The match started at 9:45 and at 12:30 Kennedy had secured a 7-6, 6-7, 7-4 win over Culligan for the championship.

In other action, Stephanie Logan defeated Caitlin Malloy 6-3, 6-4 in the 14-year-old girls’ division while Kristen Gucciardo defeated Patricia Culligan and Chris Meier defeated Joe Cappiello in the 10 year-old divisions.

In the 18-year-old division, Sean O’Mahoney eased past Aaron Johnson 6-2, 6-1 for the title.

Teresa Kennedy chaired the tournament and provided the volunteer scorekeepers for each event. The tournament began early last week with round robin play in the younger divisions at Dickinson Park.
