On Tuesday, at approximately 8:53 am, Newtown police responded to a report of a home invasion involving a possible sexual assault at 31 Berkshire Road (Route 34).

“This is a two-family home [and] one of the units is currently undergoing renovation and unoccupied,” Police Chief Michael Kehoe said in a statement.

“Upon arrival, responding officers discovered that a suspect vehicle had fled the scene. A description of the vehicle was provided by the occupant that was home at the time,” Chief Kehoe said.

“The occupant stated that the suspect made forcible entry through the front door. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan with Connecticut license plates — plate numbers unknown,” the chief said.

On Tuesday morning, at least one person was transported from the crime scene to the hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be checked.

According to a published report, police have described the suspect as male, 6 feet tall, with very short hair, wearing a white T-shirt, shorts, and glasses.

Newtown police requested the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad in processing the scene for forensic evidence, the chief said. Newtown police detectives are conducting the crime investigation.

The 1918 two-story ranch-style house at 31 Berkshire Road sits on three-tenths of an acre.

Newtown police are seeking the public’s help in identifying witnesses that may have been in the area of Berkshire Road and the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84 between the 8:45 am and 8:53 am on Tuesday, the chief said.
