Newtown police on Wednesday continued their probe into a reported “home invasion” on Tuesday morning at a house on Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook, located near the Exit 11 overpasses of Interstate 84. Police were tight-lipped on the case, providing little additional information on the incident, which occurred at 31 Berkshire Road.

In a brief statement, Newtown police said on Tuesday that at about 8:53 am, they “responded to a report of a home invasion.”

On Tuesday morning, at least one person was apparently transported from the scene to the hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be checked.

“Newtown police currently are investigating with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad,” the police statement added.

Police Chief Michael Kehoe explained Wednesday that the state police were called in to aid local police in analyzing evidence.

A state police spokeswoman said Wednesday that any comment on the case would be provided by Newtown police.

According to Newtown police, a newer, dark-colored four-door sedan may have been seen in the area of 31 Berkshire Road traveling at a high speed at about the time of the incident.

Newtown police said they are seeking help from the public in their investigation concerning suspicious activity in the area of Berkshire Road and the Exit 11 interchange between 8:45 and 8:53 am on Tuesday.

Chief Kehoe said that any arrests that would be made in the case most likely would be made through the arrest warrant process.

On Wednesday, Newtown police Lieutenant Richard Robinson, who heads the detective unit, said that police would provide additional details on the case when possible.
