CAPE COD GLASS CLUB HELPS STAFF MUSEUMâS GLASS SHOW SEPT 14Ââ15
avv/gs set 8/14 #708920
SANDWICH, MASS. â On Friday, September 14, Cape Cod Glass Club members will enter the Skylight Room of the Corpus Christi Church to help transform it into a dazzling glass showroom.
The 20th annual Cape Cod Glass Show and Sale, sponsored by the Sandwich Glass Museum, opens to the public at this new location Saturday, September 15. Friday, however, is the day that more than 40 antique and contemporary glass dealers cover tables with their treasures. Club members volunteer as porters for dealers who need help in transporting their ware. Others assist show manager Douglas Reed with last-minute details.
Under the supervision of club volunteer coordinator Karen Hurwitz, by the end of the day all will be ready for buyers waiting in the ticket line on Saturday morning.
During the show, customers will see club personnel staffing the ticket table, âbooth sittingâ for dealers who need a break, and keeping a watchful eye by walking the aisles. Members educated in identifying glass will maintain an identification table to help dealers and ticket holders attribute their objects to a particular glass factory, area of the United States, or foreign country. The Cape Cod Glass Club is grateful for assistance provided by members of the Westchester Glass Club, which sponsors its own annual glass show in April.
As an added event, the Cape Cod Glass Club will conduct a raffle of an owl paperweight given to the club by artist Rick Ayotte of Ayotte Glass Studio in Nashua, N.H. Ayotteâs glass art is known worldwide. It resides in museums such as the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum in Neenah, Wis., and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at the clubâs membership table during show hours at the price of $5 for one and $10 for three. The winning ticket will be drawn Sunday, September 16, at 3 pm.
The Cape Cod Glass Club, founded in the year 2000, is a not-for-profit chapter of the National American Glass Club. It is dedicated to the study and appreciation of glass regardless of the type or period, with emphasis on American glass.
