Madeline (Schurachio) West, 88, of Main Street South, Woodbury, widow of Frank T. West, died August 13 at her home.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Cynthia Ann Pollock and son-in-law, Paul E. Pollock, of Sandy Hook as well as five grandchildren, Amy, Jeremy, Becky, Amanda, and Sarah Pollock.
Mrs West was born December 29, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Andrew and Delia (Lactiva) Schurachio. She attended local schools and for the past 40 years was an antiques dealer in Woodbury. She was also a professional photographer and artist.
She was active in Girl Scouting for over 25 years, starting the first Girl Scout troop for mentally challenged girls in the 1960s. She served as the president of Rockville Centre New York Girl Scout Council. She also served as president of the local Cancer Society and was involved in local politics in New York and Connecticut. She was on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Woodbury and communicant of St Teresa Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 17, at 9 am, at St Teresa Church in Woodbury. Burial will follow at New North Cemetery.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Woodbury funeral home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street, Woodbury, on Thursday, August 16, from 5 to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs Westâs name to a charity of the donorâs choice.
