Helen M. Elyea, 99, the wife of the late Earl Elyea, formerly of Torrance, Calif., died August 8 in Ashlar of Newtown.
She was born in Newtown on October 5, 1901, daughter of the late George and Mary (Warren) Northrup. For many years she and her first husband, Paul T. Clarkson, lived on Main Street in Newtown. She was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a seamstress, and during World War II she volunteered for the Red Cross sewing bandages. She and Mr Clarkson moved to California in 1947.
She returned to Newtown in 1997. Her only survivor is one nephew, Richard W. Andrews of Newtown.
Following cremation, her cremains will be placed in a niche in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Englewood, Calif.
A memorial service will be held in California at a later date.
Arrangements were by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown.
