B’nai Israel Receives Award

DANBURY — Congregation B’nai Israel has won an honorable mention award for the “excellence of its family education” in a competition conducted by United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, the parent organization for Conservative synagogues all over the country.

In citing Congregation B’nai Israel, the Awards Committee pointed out that the winners in this category are a source of pride not only to themselves but to the United Synagogue as well.  “Please know,” the citation continues, “your efforts will serve as a model for your fellow congregations.”

Congregation B’nai Israel, represented by its Rabbi, Rabbi Vivie Mayer, and Congregation Co-Presidents Shalom Lampell and Gail Friedman, will be personally honored at an Official Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held in February in Washington, D.C.

Family education planning at B’nai Israel originates primarily from Rabbi Mayer, who has introduced many new and creative programs for both children and adults since she brought her concept of “Judaism for Today in a Warm and Caring Environment” to the synagogue 4½ years ago.
