Girls High School Soccer

 

Anyone interested in playing soccer with the Newtown High School girls’ soccer team this fall should call Shannon Rouse at 426-8885 or Kate Bouteiller at 426-0577 for further information.

Girls High School Swimming

 

Anyone interested in swimming with the Newtown High School girls’ swim team this fall should call Candice Cohen at 270-8172 or Ashley Molden at 426-4816.

Football Practice

 

All incoming freshmen and returning players, practice for the 2000 football season will begin Monday, August 21, at 4 pm, on the fields behind Newtown High School. The first day of full pads will be on Saturday, August 26, when a co-practice with Sheehan High School will run from 6 am to 6 pm. Fall Softball

 

Newtown Hawks travel softball is trying to organize a possible fall softball schedule for U10, U12, and U14 players (in addition to planning ahead for the summer 2001 season). Next summer, the teams will compete in the Central Valley Fastpitch League (an ASA league), but this fall a schedule would include games against Putnam County and Western Connecticut teams. Anyone interested in playing should call head coaches Nancy Bowen at 426-7101 (U10 players), Rich Van Waalwijk at 426-1673 (U12 players), or Norm LaFlamme at 426-1954 (U14 players). Any qualified individuals interested in coaching a U16 or a U18 team should call Paul LaFrancesca at 270-1844. To be eligible for each age bracket, you must be that age or younger on January 1, 2001.

Fall Baseball Registrations

 

Newtown Babe Ruth is taking registrations for fall baseball and anyone interested should call as soon as possible. Cost is $60 and the season will start (hopefully) on Sunday, September 10 and run through the end of October. Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. Age groups are as follows - if your child played in the 6- to 7-year-old age group this spring, call Bill Kneisel at 270-6060; if your child played in the 8- to 9-year-old age group, call Roy Muraskiewicz at 270-9231; if your child played in the 10-year-old or National/American League as an 11-year-old, call Dennis LaPak at 426-6616; if your child played in the National/American League as a 12-year-old, call Debi or John Modzelewski at 426-8632; if your child played in the 13-15 age divisions, call Frank Rocca at 426-3473.

Signups For The Cage

 

The Cage, a complete baseball training facility in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, is accepting signups for its three Connecticut Wolfpack fall ball teams. The teams are open to recent Little League graduates, 13 to 14 years of age. Each team will play a 28-game schedule (Saturdays and Sundays) from mid-September through October against teams throughout the state. Cost is $320, which includes a full uniform.
