Jim Hanrahan Memorial & Art Benefit Planned
Working through the grief at the sudden death in July of her husband, writer James P. Hanrahan, artist Ginger Hanrahan has planned a show and sale of her art with music and refreshments to raise money to sponsor a scholarship in his name. It is proposed that the scholarship will be offered through Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.
Open to the public, the event will begin with a short memorial service at 3 pm Saturday, August 15, in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Newtown Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.
“This is something my husband would have wanted me to do,” she added.
Ms Hanrahan lives in Bethel with her daughter Caitlin, but works out of a studio within Edmond Town Hall. As an artist, she identifies as a Post Expressive Symbolic Naturalist greatly influenced by the Hudson River Valley School, a mid-19th Century Impressionist American art movement.
She holds a BA in anthropology, but says “I’ve always been an artist. I could paint ten hours a day.”
After earning a Masters degree in Public Health and Community Development from Yale, she attended WestConn and earned a Masters in Fine Art.
Sunday’s event, which will run until 5 pm, will also partially benefit Bethel Arts, according to its Facebook page. Light refreshments will be provided.
