Phyllis A. “Pat” (Murphy) Wrinn of Newtown died peacefully August 11. She was born in Meriden, April 6, 1931, the daughter of Marion and Joseph Murphy.

Mrs Wrinn was a retired registered nurse with a bachelor's degree from Western Connecticut State University (1978). She dedicated her career to oncology nursing, and in 1982 trained at McGill University’s Royal Victoria Hospital to become one of the earliest health care professionals certified in Hospice Care, a pioneering approach to caring for terminally ill patients and their families.

Her nursing career included positions at Danbury Hospital, Ashlar of Newtown, and the Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut. Later she spent countless hours volunteering for the VNA and the Thrift Shop in Newtown.

In her personal life, she had a passion for the arts. She was an avid and serious classical pianist, and accomplished painter. Her influence echoes through the generations she raised; she has loved, been loved, and will be dearly missed.

Surviving Mrs. Wrinn are her children and their spouses, Dr Michael and Vivian (Huang) Wrinn of Portland, Ore., Joseph and Theresa (Madsen) Wrinn of Woodbury, Ann (Wrinn) and Steven Gordon of Southampton, N.Y., Jonathan and Nancy (Corcoran) Wrinn of Wichita, Kan., Robert and LeeAnn (Inderbitzen) Wrinn of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Philip and Ann (Brennan) Wrinn of Cherry Hill, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her sister Muriel Mehr, brothers Bill and Jim Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs Wrinn. Her husband, Charles E. Wrinn, Sr (d 2006); and son, Charles Wrinn, Jr (d 1990) predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, Saturday, August 16, at 10 am. Interment will follow at the St Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Friday, August 15, from 5 to 8 pm.
