William A. Wirtes, 80, of Northport, Fla., died July 28, at a Hospice facility there. He was born in Danbury, July 30, 1929, to Lena Prebihayla and Anthony William Wirtes.
A longtime resident of Newtown, Mr Wirtes is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Cole Wirtes. Two sisters, Patricia Burns of Danbury and Alberta Golder of Colorado, and brother David Wirtes of Florida, also survive Mr Wirtes; as do sister-in-law Shirley Ferris and husband, Charles D. Ferris III, of Newtown; Dorothy Earl and husband Larry of California; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sister Janet Forsberg and brother Steve Wirtes, both formerly of Danbury
Mr Wirtes worked for 20 years for E.I. Dupont in Newtown, and as a carpenter and stonemason for several years. He then ran an escort service for wide loads across the country. He was an avid fisherman and camera buff.
A memorial service will be held in Newtown at a future date.
