To the Editor:
On behalf of the players, parents, and families of the Newtown Thunder baseball team, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for all those who came out on Saturday, August 7, to support us in our fundraising car wash and bake sale effort.
What a beautiful day to scrub cars, enjoy delicious home baked goods, and each otherâs company as we worked diligently to raise money to defray our costs to get to the Cal Ripken World Series in Ocala, Fla. Many thanks to Jim Marcucilli of Berkshire Motors who generously offered the use of his business as our washing grounds and a special thank you to Scott and Wesley Scriven, who helped us all day and treated all the workers to a much-deserved pizza lunch! The team would also like to thank All-Star Batting for donating unlimited hitting to the players this week and Rankin Sports who donated New England Regional Champs T-shirts to all the boys and coaches.
The generosity of our friends, neighbors, families, businesses, and fellow athletes in Newtown truly touched all of us! We depart Newtown with hearts full of well wishes and we know these boys will do Newtown proud!
