Men’s Club Championship Finals

Rock Ridge’s 2010 Club Championship Finals this past weekend had one theme — birdies, birdies, and more birdies. The two competitors made the 36-hole match go back and forth, with solid play all around. The two finalists, Chris Watson and Sean Patrick, played to a down-to-the-wire finish before Watson prevailed.

The day started bright and early with Patrick getting out to an early lead, shooting an even par 35 on his first nine holes of the match. Watson fired back with a 1 under par 34 on his back nine to take a two up lead through the first 18 holes. Patrick then responded with three birdies on the third nine of the match for a 2 under par score of 33 to take a one up lead into the last nine holes of the championship.

Watson evened the match with a par on the tenth hole of the last 18, only to lose the 11th to a par. Watson responded on 12 with a birdie to make the match all square headed to the 13th tee. Both players halved 13 and 14 with pars.

Watson made a great par on 15 to take a one up lead. He then sunk a 15-foot birdie putt on the 34th hole to take a two up lead with two to play. Both players then made par on the 35th hole, enabling Watson to be crowed Rock Ridge’s Club Champion.

Watson and Patrick both shot 75 on the first eighteen of the match, with Watson shooting 71 and Patrick with 72 on the second eighteen holes.
