‘GI Jukebox,’ ‘Atticus’ At Love & Knishes

SOUTHBURY — Three more afternoons of entertainment will round out the month of August at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North.

On August 17, Music From the Heart features pianist Ethel Kaufman, trumpeter Bucky Milam, and drummer Jeremy Alston in a program showcasing favorites from the Great American Songbook.

GI Jukebox on August 24 promises to be a fun program of songs from the World War II era when canteens served the nation’s troops with music from home. Pianist Jeanne Hinkson will be joined by her band, with Helen Falcone and Jeanne singing, Heidi Hinkson on trumpet and percussion, and their favorite drummer, John Colella.

Featured songs include “Sentimental Journey,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Rum and Coca Cola,” “Tangerine,” “Maizy Doats” and many others.

On August 31, actor Richard Clark appears in Atticus, a solo show in which he brings to life Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. As a loving father, compassionate friend, and uncompromising attorney in 1930s Alabama, Atticus represents the divine spark in the human spirit as he leads a cast of other unlikely heroes in this story.

All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy themselves with Jordan Caterers of Cheshire’s healthful hot lunch, which is served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.

Lunch reservations should be made by the Friday before each lunch, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50. To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
