DUI Arrest

Police received a report about 1 am on August 1, in which the caller said there was an erratic driver traveling northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Orchard Hill Road, so police investigated the complaint.

Police said they then spotted the northbound vehicle in question and observed it swerving as it traveled, so they stopped motorist Gustavo Gomez, 37, of Bridgeport, on Main Street, near its intersection with South Main Street, to investigate.

Following field sobriety testing, police charged Gomez with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right. After processing, police released Gomez on $100 bail for an August 10 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Vandalism

During the early morning hours of Friday, July 30, someone damaged several curbside residential mailboxes and their supporting posts in the Alberts Hill Road area, according to police.

Alberts Hill Road links Walnut Tree Hill Road to Echo Valley Road. Police are investigating the property damage and ask anyone with information on the crimes to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Taunton Hill Road

Police report that at about 4 am on Thursday, August 5, someone vandalized an unspecified number of curbside residential mailboxes in the Taunton Hill Road area.

Anyone with information on the criminal activity is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Motor Vehicle Charges

While on patrol about 4:36 pm August 4, police stopped motorist Joseph Nowicki, 24, of 53 Toddy Hill Road on Washington Avenue, near Pearl Street, in Sandy Hook.

After investigating, police charged Nowicki with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Nowicki on a written promise to appear in court on August 18.

Power Tools

Sometime between 9 and 10:15 am on August 4, someone stole a back-mounted leaf blower and a Stihl-brand chainsaw, which were in a pickup truck that was parked in front of 57 Castle Hill Road, according to police.

Police are investigating the larceny and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Truck Vs SUV

At about 9 am on July 29, motorist Ernest Argenio, 48, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Saturn SUV southward on Botsford Hill Road, stopped and was preparing to turn left onto High Bridge Road, when a southbound 2001 Dodge pickup truck driven by Nestor Manuel Salinas Rodriguez, 35, of Danbury, struck the rear end of the Saturn, police said.

Argenio reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Rodriguez received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

Underhill Road

Police said that at about 8 pm on August 5, they received a complaint regarding some erratic driving in the Underhill Road area, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question, after which they stopped it and gave motorist John T. Gill III, 23, of 10 Maple Drive field sobriety testing.

Police charged Gill with driving under the influence and with failure to renew a vehicle registration. Police released Gill on $250 bail for an August 17 court appearance.

Vandals At Gravel Mine

Sometime overnight on August 2–3, someone vandalized some industrial equipment at the Tilcon Connecticut gravel mine at 8 Button Shop Road in Botsford, police report.

In the incident, an air compressor was damaged. Also, various objects were damaged when they were thrown from a four-story tower at the property, police said.

Police are seeking the public’s help in learning who did the damage at the industrial site. They ask that those with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Jeep Vs Acura

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Glen Road, near its intersection with Cherry Street, about 8:30 pm July 26.

Police said that motorist Adam Samuels, 27, of 128 Hanover Road was driving a 1993 Jeep SUV southward on Glen Road, as motorist Cathy Willinger, 32, of 3 Todds Road was driving a 2006 Acura sedan northward there.

The Jeep entered the opposite lane and then collided with the Acura, police said. There were no injuries. Police gave Samuels a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Arrest

About 11:18 pm on August 6, police stopped motorist Marcos Rodrigues, 28, of Bridgeport near 79 Mt Pleasant Road for some motor vehicle violations, police report.

After investigating, police charged Rodrigues with driving under the influence, driving without a license, and failure to drive to the right.

Rodrigues was released on $200 bail for an August 19 court appearance.

DUI Case

At about 10:30 pm August 7, police received a report concerning a one-vehicle accident that occurred near 1 Pole Bridge Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

After investigating at the scene, police charged motorist George Collins, 21, of 2 Melody Lane with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After arrest processing, police released Collins on $100 bail for an August 24 court appearance.

Dodge Truck

Anthony Saracini. 28, of Bethel was driving a 2005 Dodge pickup truck southward near 130 Boggs Hill Road about 10 am on July 30, when the vehicle went out of control due to an equipment failure, police report.

The truck went across the road, went off the left road shoulder and collided with some bushes, police said. Saracini was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

New Haven Man

Police report that motorist Angel Peralta-Gutierrez, 50, of New Haven was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Wasserman Way about 2 pm August 5. He was not injured.

Police report they charged Gutierrez with traveling too fast for conditions, driving without a license, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released him from custody on $500 bail for an August 19 court appearance.

Commuter Lot

About 7:17 pm August 6, motorist Brian Zupcoe, 43, of New Milford, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck, inadvertently backed into a 2001 Volkswagen Golf driven by Nelson Batista, 23, of Bridgeport in the commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, state police report.

There were no injuries. Zupcoe was verbally warned for unsafe backing, state police said.

I-84 Crash

About 4 pm August 6, motorist Michael Maxim, 28, of Edgecomb, Maine, who was driving a 2007 Kia Optima westward on Interstate 84, was slowing for heavy traffic, when his vehicle was struck from behind by motorist Conor Brooks, 17, of Farmington, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, state police report.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Tractor-Trailer

State police report an accident involving a tractor-trailer truck and an automobile about 12:14 am August 6 on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 10.

In that accident, trucker Jose Perez, 32, of East Hartford, who was driving a 2000 Mack tractor-trailer truck, changed lanes in a three-lane area and struck motorist Christopher Basdeo, 19, no address given, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, which was carrying three passengers, according to state police.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Perez an infraction on charges of making an unsafe lane change, failure to carry a medical condition card, failure to carry an automotive insurance card, and failure to carry a driver’s license.

 

House Burglary

A resident of Clear View Drive returned home about 6 pm on August 7 after having been away for several days and discovered that the house had been burglarized, police report.

Jewelry and some loose coins were stolen in the incident. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Brushy Hill Road

Police said motorist Samantha Moore, 18, of 106 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2003 Hyundai sedan southward near 124 Brushy Hill Road about 3:20 pm August 1, when a deer jumped out onto the road. Moore attempted to avoid colliding with the animal, but the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and struck some guardcabling, police said.

Moore was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.

DUI Charge

Police report they were dispatched to a Riverside property following a complaint concerning a domestic dispute there about 7:45 pm August 4.

Police said that before they arrived, the subject of the complaint, who was Jonathan Orell, 54, of 138 Underhill Road, had left the scene. Police said they then found Orell and investigated.

After giving him sobriety tests, police charged Orell with driving under the influence. They said they additionally charged him with breach of peace in connection with the domestic incident.

Police said they held Orell on $2,500 bail for an August 5 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Trespassing

Police said they responded to a report of trespassing occurring at Fairfield Hills at about 4:30 pm on August 8. After investigating, police said they issued infractions for simple trespassing to three people, all of whom are under age 18 and thus known as “youthful offenders” whose identities are not disclosed. The fines resulting from such infractions are payable by mail or may be appealed in court.

Two Violations

At about 4:35 pm August 10, police stopped motorist Stephanie Doris, 19, of Bethel near 44 Dodgingtown Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Doris with driving a vehicle without a front marker plate and with driving under suspension.

Police released Doris on a written promise to appear in court on August 24.

Vehicular Vandalism

Police report that at about 2 am on August 10, someone vandalized an unspecified vehicle that was parked on Osborn Hill Road. A white pickup truck was spotted being driven away from that area at that time, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Botsford MVA

About 9 am August 10, motorist Raquel Torres-Gonzalez, 24, of New Milford was driving a 2006 Honda sedan southward on South Main Street, near Swamp Road, when she lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The Honda slid across the northbound lane and then hit an embankment along the left road shoulder.

Ambulance volunteers transported the driver to the hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident. Police said that Torres-Gonzalez made a restricted turn.
