Events Planned To Fight Breast Cancer
SHELTON â In 1997, Carolyn Deal, president of William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services, was devastated to hear the results of her medical tests. The diagnosis was breast cancer. In subsequent years she shared her experience with others and found that many people in the company had been either victims or had been touched by breast cancer. She was amazed at the impact this disease has had on people just within her company.
Today Carolyn Deal celebrates life as a breast cancer survivor, and the William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services company devoting time and energy to raising funds for this cause.
The William Raveis Charitable Fund, Inc and the William Raveis Breast Cancer Research Fund, a nonprofit organization, were formed to positively impact the progression of a cure for breast cancer. Six fundraisers have been planned throughout the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts, beginning on September 21 through October 8, all sharing the theme âWines and Foods of the Worldâ and held in support of research for breast cancer and in support of those afflicted with this disease.
Activities offered at the events vary and range from wine tasting, hors dâoeuvres, raffles and door prizes to silent and live auctions and a car lottery. All funds raised will be distributed to the Breast Cancer Alliance in Greenwich, the University of Connecticut Breast Cancer Program in Farmington, and the Dana Farber Womenâs Cancer Center in Boston.
More women in the United States are living with breast cancer than any other cancer, including skin cancer. This disease affects a majority of families in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. The highest incidence of breast cancer occurs in the state of Connecticut, and a very high density of incidence occurs in the community of Newton, Mass.
William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services, with offices in both states, is contributing its resources to help find a cure. The family owned and operated, community-based company is celebrating its 30th year in business this year. The series of events to help fight breast cancer is the largest effort of the companyâs 45 offices and 1,400 sales professionals.
