Presentation By Alan Falk During Beth El Open House
SOUTHBURY â International artist Alan Falk will present an illustrated talk on his new series of works based upon âThe Song of Songsâ during an open house hosted by Beth El Synagogue on Sunday, August 14.
The synagogue is part of the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North (Route 6/67). The open house will run from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and will include brunch. Mr Falkâs program will begin at 1.
Inspired by diverse Jewish references, the artist has used Jewish themes in his recent works as the basis for commentary on the human condition. These references include biblical passages, prophetic writings, rabbinic commentaries, modern theology, and Jewish history, sources that teach the core moral and humanistic values of Jewish tradition and ethos. These values encompass the fundamental desire for personal, spiritual and global peace, equality, and social justice.
Alan Falk was born in Manchester, England, and emigrated to the United States in 1974. He taught fine arts at several colleges of art in England, Canada and the United States, including New York University.
He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions including solo shows in New York City and in London. Group shows have included the Royal College of Art in London, International Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland, Kunsterner Hus National Art Museum in Oslo, Norway, Baltimore Museum of Art in Delaware, Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, Minnesota Museum of Art in St Paul, and the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art, among many others. His work is included in numerous private, corporate, public and university collections.
The open house is sponsored by Beth Elâs membership committee and is open to prospective and current members. Interested families and individuals can meet the clergy, Rabbi Eliana Falk and Cantor Sharon Citrin, and learn about Beth Elâs many cultural events, social activities, educational programs, and accessible style of worship for all ages.
In addition to the artistâs presentation, guests can enjoy a musical sing-along, Israeli dancing, crafts projects, blowing of the shofar, and a lavish brunch, including cupcake frosting for the kids. There will be door prizes and gifts for new members, as well as High Holiday tickets for purchase.
