Marcie Albanesi has been named senior executive director of Newtown’s Maplewood Senior Living community, according to Gregory Smith, chairman and CEO of Maplewood Senior Living, which also has facilities in Danbury and Orange, and is poised to open additional facilities in Darien and East Norwalk in the coming months.

Ms Albanesi joins the property from The Village at Brookfield Common, where she was executive director. An industry veteran of 20 years, her career spans several strategic roles at Danbury Hospital, Oxford Health Plans, Four Winds Hospital, and Stamford Hospital.

“Marcie’s strong leadership within the luxury senior housing and health care fields is second to none. She brings with her a wealth of experience in working with residents, families, and associates, and we’re thrilled to have her join the Maplewood family,” said Mr Smith.

Ms Albanesi received an MBA in health care from Sacred Heart University and a bachelor of science degree in business management from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. She is a member of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association.

Maplewood at Newtown — comprising 100 residences — provides specialized care for its residents with a combination of assisted living and memory care programs. The facility just completed a multimillion-dollar renovation.

In related news, Mr Smith also recently named Mary Moynihan Underwood to the position of director of memory care services.

Maplewood Senior Living is locally based in Westport, and is known for its upscale residences, offering a broad range of premier services, amenities and care to its residents.

Professionally trained staff provides care and attention to those residents needing a supportive environment, as well as specialized care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

“Our first priority is to provide the surrounding community with world-class care, amenities and services,” Mr Smith said. “We have sought out the best in the industry and have found industry veterans with exemplary experience. Mary is known to be a dedicated professional who embraces the philosophy of providing the very best care to the residents, as well as providing the much needed support families seek and deserve.”

Ms Underwood joins Maplewood Senior Living with more than 22 years of memory care experience. She has served in both community-based management roles, as well as regional management roles for nationally recognized providers, where she was responsible for setting and meeting standards of care.

She will oversee dementia programming and care for all Maplewood Senior Living communities.

A Mark T. Sheehan Hall of Fame inductee for work with those with dementia, Ms Underwood is a repeat recipient of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Outstanding Caregiver Award and has presented at the statewide, national, and international Alzheimer’s Association conferences. She is a support group leader and Memory Walk committee member, and has previously served as an Alzheimer’s Association board member and secretary.
