*After what band member Jim Sheridan calls âan unprecedented sox-week break from gigs, while putting the final touching on their upcoming CD release which will have 11 new songs, THE ADULTS have a handful of upcoming gigs.
The band will be at The One-Eyed Pig in Newtown on Saturday, August 13; then at The Cookhouse in New Milford on Friday, August 25; back at The One-Eyed Pig, this time hosting the weekly open mic night, on Thursday, August 25; and then closing the month with a show at Greenwoodâs in Bethel on Friday, August 26.
*Lou Bellofatto and Tony Summo, a/k/a OLD SCHOOL, have four shows on the calendar at Proud Maryâs between now and the end of September.
The duo, who were the fantastic musical guests at a party I recently attended, really are very good. Check them out for yourself at the lounge below The Inn at Newtown, 19 Main Street, on Fridays, August 19, and September 16 and 30.
*The Ridgefield Playhouse has landed a September 6 return show by singer/songwriter and reality TV star (and creator of one of my favorite Snapple flavors) BRET MICHAELS. Tickets are $90 and $110, and available by calling 203-438-5795 or visiting www.RidgefieldPlayhouse.org.
And just a reminder: last Novemberâs show by Michaels was sold out, so chances are his popularity both on stage and the (TV) screen will continue. I keep hearing good things about his shows, and the Poison reunion shows.
*Citing a respiratory condition, GREGG ALLMAN has canceled the rest of his summer tour, which was to have included a performance with Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers and Bela Fleck & The Flecktones on August 26 at SummerWind Performing Arts Center in Windsor. Hornsby and Fleck will perform as scheduled, with Jaimoeâs Jasssz Band offering an opening set.
Allman, the singer, songwriter and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band had already nixed the last four dates of a European tour in June. He had been touring behind his new solo album, Low Country Blues, his first solo album of new material since 1997.
Meanwhile, the tickets for August 26 are still valid, and more are available. TicketMaster is reporting that refunds are available at the point of purchase for those who want them, however.
Tickets are $45.80 ($35 for the ticket, another $10.80 for âfeesâ), and $77.80 to $99.55 for reserved chair seating. Visit www.sscsummerwind.org or call 800-317-7140 for details.
Also, THE STEVE MILLER BAND is in Windsor this weekend. Friday night, in fact, at 8 pm.
Tickets for that gig are $45.80 for the lawn seating, and $77.80 or $114.95 (!!!) for reserved chairs. Use the website or phone number above for this show as well.
*KINGS OF LEON have canceled their 2011 US Summer Tour, including their performance scheduled for Saturday, August 13, at Comcast Theatre in Hartford.
A statement from KOL, released Monday afternoon, read as follows: âWe are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are canceling their entire US tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion. The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break.
âUnfortunately, the US dates cannot be rescheduled due to the bandâs international tour schedule. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Tickets purchased online or via phones will be automatically refunded.
âThe band will resume touring in Canada at the Rogers Center in Vancouver, BC, on September 28. That show was originally schedule for September 14.â
*Also, the August 8 DEAD AND DIVINE show at The Webster in Hartford has been cancelled.
*On a positive note, tickets are available for âAn Evening with PAULA COLE,â which will be at the Quick Center for the Performing Arts at Fairfield University on Friday, April 27 (yes, 2012). Tickets are $35-$45 each, and are already available through the Quick Centerâs box office; call 203-254-4010 or 877-278-7386, or visit www.QuickCenter.com.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
