To the Editor:

Canine Advocates of Newtown would like to thank everyone connected with organizing the tercentennial event on Saturday. It was such a wonderful day — even the weather could not have been better!

Our table was busy all day, with the children eagerly participating in our free raffles and having fun deciding which gift basket they wanted to win. As crowds gathered for each drawing, the excitement grew. It gave us great pleasure to see so many happy faces. Four lucky children went home with baskets filled with goodies for them and their pets.

It was also nice to have an opportunity to talk to people about the dogs at the Newtown Pound and to hear stories about their dogs. The pound dogs say thank you to all who made donations, and Rufus and Clyde thank all who stopped just to ask about them. A number of people inquired about volunteering and I look forward to hearing from each of them soon. We have many needs and a variety of ways in which volunteers can help.

Newtown is a great place to live, and Canine Advocates loves being an integral part of this community. Happy 300th birthday, Newtown!
