Coming To A Theater Near You:Â New Seats
Coming To A Theater Near You:Â New Seats
To the Editor:
The festivities to celebrate the 300th anniversary of our town were in full swing this past weekend and it was a fun-filled time for all. As part of the long-range plan to celebrate the Tercentennial of Newtown, The Newtown Lions Club has been working to procure funds to replace the 411 seats on the lower level of the Edmond Town Hall Theatre and to refurbish the seats in the theaterâs balcony. This architectural and community jewel will be greatly enhanced when the seating is improved. The community response to replace the seats has been amazing. To date, the Lions have raised over $91,000, or 61 percent of the funds needed to complete this project.
Each seat costs $300. Individuals, businesses, and organizations have donated seats, and in some cases, complete rows of seats. Some people have even banded together as neighbors in a âStreets for Seatsâ campaign to pool resources to donate a theater seat to represent their block.
The Lions will install a plaque with the name of the donor on each purchased seat. Itâs a great way to honor or memorialize a loved one or provide permanent advertising for a local business, while helping to improve a valued community resource.
Remaining seats can still be donated by sending a check to The Newtown Lions Club, PO Box 218, Newtown CT 06470. For more information call Gordon Williams at 426-6443.
Sincerely,
Evan Pitkoff
