On May 14 Jessica Lynn Pratt, the daughter of Robert and Linda Pratt of Patrick Springs, Va., and the granddaughter of Lois Pratt and the late Roland C. Pratt of Newtown, graduated from Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia, cum laude with an associates degree in applied science in legal assisting. She also holds an associateâs degree in arts and sciences in business administration. Jessica has been selected two years in a row by the Whoâs who in American Junior Colleges.
Nathan Gaines and Jessica Oswald of Sandy Hook and Erin McDonald of Newtown recently fulfilled the requirements to complete degrees from the University of Delaware. Sandy Hook residents Michael Brill, Nathan Gaines, and Jessica Oswald have been named to the Deanâs List at the University of Delaware for the spring semester. Kelly Conant and Megan Johnston of Newtown have also been named to the Deanâs List at the University of Delaware.
Sandy Hook resident Bonnie Jean Soucy recently graduated from the State University of New York University at Albany with a bachelor of arts degree. In addition to graduating Bonnie Jean also was named to the Deanâs List for the spring semester.
Sandy Hook resident Ryan Knapp enrolled in the LC Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University has been named to the Deanâs List for the spring semester. Ryan is a mechanical engineer major at Syracuse.
Newtown resident Katherine Berliner has earned placement on the Deanâs List for the spring semester at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
John Kukla of Sandy Hook recently completed the Frontiers Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Frontiers is a two-week summer residential program for soon to be juniors and seniors interested in science, math, and engineering. Students gain exposure to a problem in their academic program, using current laboratory techniques, choosing from the following areas: aerospace engineering, biology, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, physics, and robotics. John completed the biology program as well as the creative writing workshop.
Jeffrey Reinhardt of Newtown participated in this summerâs Boston University Tanglewood Institute, a program of musical study and performance that is recognized internationally as an outstanding educational experience for young artists. Jeffrey has studied oboe/English horn for 12 years. He was among 338 students selected from auditions across the country and abroad to work with members of the faculty and world renowned visiting artists. Jeffrey is a senior at Newtown High School.
Britta Cedergren of Sandy Hook was awarded a scholarship grant for her leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement by the Former Agents of the FBI Foundation. This foundation is the philanthropic arm the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, Inc located in Virginia. Britta attends Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
