Police report that motorist Eric Bassett, 25, of 80 Birch Hill Road was driving a 2002 Acura RSX northward on Mt Pleasant Road about 7:06 pm July 29, when he passed a noncontact vehicle on the right in an area where there is only one northbound travel lane.
Bassett lost control of the Acura and went off the right side of the road, crossed a lawn at 24 Mt Pleasant Road and then struck a tree head-on, police said. Bassett received multiple injuries in the accident, according to police.
Police said they issued Bassett an infraction ticket for passing on the right, making a restricted turn, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Subway Burglary
Sometime overnight on July 30/31, a male and a female broke into the Subway sandwich shop at 71 South Main Street at Rickyâs Shopping Center, police said.
The pair forced entry into the shop by throwing a concrete block through a glass panel on the door, police said. Police said they have video surveillance tapes of the crime.
Approximately $1,500 in cash was stolen from the premises, police said. The incident constitutes burglary, larceny, and criminal mischief. Police are investigating.
Inky Incident
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Erich Dinnan, 16, of 23 Lake Road, who is a Newtown High School student, turned himself in at the police station on August 9 and was charged with second degree criminal mischief, police said.
Police said that Dinnan and several youths under age 16, who are also high school students, allegedly hurled containers of indelible ink at the highâs schoolâs exterior walls and patio area on June 2, defacing the structure. School officials have estimated the damage at $2,000.
Police said Dinnan was released into the custody of his father for an August 23 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.
On August 10, police arrested a youth under age 16 in connection with the incident, charging the youth with first degree criminal mischief and sixth degree larceny. Police released the unidentified youth for an August 29 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.
Police said they are continuing their investigation and expect to arrest the several more juveniles who allegedly took part in the vandalism.
Ford Vs Chevrolet
Motorist Carmen Serrano, 38, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu southward on South Main Street about 1:13 pm August 9, stopped behind another southbound motorist who was stopped and waiting to make a left turn into Kingâs Restaurant driveway at 271 South Main Street, police said.
Southbound motorist William Malkin, Jr, 65, of 18 Queen Street, who was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.
 After the impact, Serrano reported neck pain, but did not want medical assistance, police said. Police issued Malkin a written warning for following too closely.
