99th Nutmeg Festival Takes Place This Weekend

RIDGEFIELD — St Stephen’s Church is ready for its 99th Nutmeg Festival, to be held Saturday, August 13, from 10 am to 4 pm, on the church campus at 351 Main Street. There is no charge for admission.

One of Connecticut’s oldest church fairs, the Nutmeg Festival is known for its variety of crafts, children’s activities, silent auction, White Elephant Barn, art, books, and antiques.

This year the festival will introduce three new booths: The Purse Lady featuring designer, children’s, and novelty handbags; Tool Time, which offers a variety of tools; and a children’s boutique.

Food is central to the festival, from baked goods, fresh produce at The Garden Spot, ice cream, cotton candy, and popcorn to hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausage patties.

Musical entertainment will include performances by the popular Catoonah Street Band.

A raffle will benefit Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, Hanahoe Memorial Children’s Clinic, and the  Women’s Center of Greater Danbury. First prize is a 55-inch plasma television set, second prize is a Weber Genesis gas barbecue, and third prize is a gift certificate for Bernard’s Restaurant in Ridgefield. General proceeds will go to other charities.

The festival is organized and run entirely by volunteers. For information contact the church office at 203-438-3789.
