C.H. Booth Library announced the launch of a theater program aimed at engaging and empowering older adults.

With the goals of fostering self-expression, and community engagement, this program will provide a unique platform for participants to unleash their creativity, learn new skills, and connect with like-minded individuals.

The theater program, designed specifically for older adults, will offer a supportive and inclusive environment where participants will meet weekly to explore the art of scriptwriting and performance techniques.

Led by an experienced instructor, attendees will embark on a journey to develop their storytelling abilities to transform their narratives into captivating scripts.

The program will culminate in a staged production in December 2023, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their written works through performances.

Library Director Douglas Lord said C.H. Booth is “massively excited” for the program.

“As the community’s only 100 percent free resource for educational and cultural programming, we take our charge to educate, inform, and entertain quite seriously,” said Lord. “By launching this theater program, we aim to create a space where older adults can unleash their creative potential, build meaningful connections, and contribute to the vibrant cultural fabric of Newtown.”

C.H. Booth Library has witnessed a significant surge in library usage, with a 17 percent increase in checkouts last year. Additionally, the library presented over 1,100 educational programs for all ages last year, catering to the evolving interests and needs of community members.

Through initiatives such as the theater program, the library aims to further enrich the lives of its patrons, fostering a sense of belonging and inspiring lifelong learning.
