The 2006 Bertram Stroock Memorial Tennis Tournament, presented by The Newtown Tennis Association, is accepting registrations now. Deadline is Monday, August 14.

Events include women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles, men’s 55 singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. Fees will be $10 for one event, $15 for two events and $20 for three events. If entries are sufficient, consolation matches will be included.

Semifinal and final rounds will be scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3.

To enter (see form at left), you must be a current resident of Newtown.

At the same time, registrations are being accepted for the 2006 Victor Coopersmith Cup, sponsored by the Richard Coopersmith family for local junior tennis players. The competition is open to all Newtown boys and girls in age groups (as of August 21, 2006) 10 and under, 14 and under, 18 and under.

Fee is $5 per player, per event, with maximum of two events per player.

Round robin matches will be played August 21 at 1 pm (10 and under), August 22 at 1 pm (14 and under) and August 23 at 2 pm (18 and under). Rain dates will be August 24 and 25. Final round matches will be played Sunday, September 3, at Dickinson Park.

In the event of rain, play will be moved indoors.
