Senior Girl Scouts Offer Reading Camp

Ashley Rothacker and Mary Kopcik, sophomores at Newtown High School, are conducting a reading camp for students going into first and second grade as fulfillment of a requirement for the Girl Scout Silver Award. The camp will be held at the United Methodist Church in Sandy Hook Center August 21–25.

Children entering first grade may attend from 2 to 3 pm. Children going into second grade can attend the 3 to 4 pm session. Children may attend one day or all five. The camp, which is free of charge, will include one-on-one time to practice reading with Jojo, their therapy dog in-training. Helpful, fun activities will be offered in a group setting.

This camp will help students brush up on reading skills before school starts. Those interested in attending can leave a message for Mary, 426-6053, or Ashley, 426-3163. Include the child’s name, grade, and contact phone number.
